On the back of the ONS releasing its latest quarterly housebuilding stats (for the period January to March 2025)1 – with 38,780 new homes built and completed, more than 36,000 below the Government’s quarterly target of 75,000 – Aldermore’s Managing Director of Property, Ross Dalzell, makes the below observations.
In recent months, Aldermore has met with Government officials at 10 Downing Street to present its Roadmap to 1.5 Million Homes policy paper. The Roadmap outlines practical, targeted solutions to remove bottlenecks, reduce costs, and give developers the certainty to build.
Ross Dalzell, Managing Director of Property at Aldermore, adds:
“Today’s data shows that the Government has fallen short of meeting its 75,000 quarterly housebuilding target. While the commitment to build 1.5 million homes over the next Parliament is ambitious, it is achievable but only with bold action at all stages of the housebuilding cycle.
“Aldermore fully supports the push to build 1.5 million homes and recently met with No.10 policy advisors to discuss how we might remove the barriers the country faces and unlock the homes Britain desperately needs.
“Our recommendations include:
“While there’s a way to go to meet the 1.5 million homes target, we commend the Government for its commitment to this ambitious project.”
