Rural broadband improvement key to savers and SMEs

POSTED: 9th February 2015

Following the publication of last week’s report by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Commons Select Committee into ‘Rural broadband and digital-only services’, Simon Healy, Managing Director for Savings at Aldermore said:

“While the country has made huge steps in the past decade to improving wider coverage and set an impressive target to upgrade basic broadband to superfast for 95% of the country by 2017, we need to ensure that other individuals, families and businesses are not being overlooked or left out completely.

“Rural consumers and SMEs rely on the internet just like any other parts of the country. For savers, many of the best rates can only be found online meaning they are losing out financially too.

“We need to ensure that if more services are administered online-only, then the rural economy does not fall behind by default and are not penalised for simply living somewhere remote.”
