Last week, Aldermore celebrated a major milestone as it reached more than £1 billion lending to small and medium sized enterprises in the UK since its launch in 2009.

To commemorate the news, we sat down for a candid interview with Aldermore CEO Phillip Monks. The interview sees Phillip comment on the issues concerning SMEs in the United Kingdom, his reaction to the government's attempts to encourage economic growth and how Aldermore is helping businesses right across Britain.

Speaking during the five-minute interview, Phillip says:

"The cry from SMEs has been that big banks don't understand their business. What Aldermore do is provide the expertise so that when we visit customers, we understand the environment which they operate it, as well as their sector.

"We're far happier visiting our customers and sharing in their enthusiasm, rather than dragging them into a branch in the city centre where the only thing that they get is a parking fine."

We're shaking up British banking.
