Aldermore to champion Small Business Saturday

IN: Business news

Aldermore is delighted to announce that it will be championing Small Business Saturday, an event taking place on 7th December, which encourages people to support SMEs in their local communities.

The Bank is offering its support for the initiative, spearheaded by Chuka Umunna, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, alongside several prominent organisations, including Ingenious Britain and the British Chambers of Commerce.

Small Business Saturday is based on the American initiative, launched in 2010. Last year, the event created over $5.5 billion in sales for small businesses (£3.5bn) and was personally supported by President Barack Obama. 2013 will see the first Small Business Saturday take place in the United Kingdom.

SMEs account for 59 per cent of private sector employment with a combined turnover of £3,100 billion. Small Business Saturday is a way for industry bodies and politicians to draw attention to the crucial role these companies play in the long-term recovery of the UK economy.
