London Standard, a property development firm based in the capital, has agreed a £3,318,000 funding package from Aldermore, the specialist bank.

The firm, which was founded in 2015, focuses on projects which involve logistical complexities. This unusual scheme, situated next to a former lock on the Stratford Waterways of East London, involved the full refurbishment of a cottage, the building of two new houses, as well as five new flats on a unique island setting.

The project was overseen by directors Anthony James, Gareth Roberts, and Nico Treguer, who specialise in developing hospitality, workspace and private rented housing programmes in London.

Anthony James, Director of London Standard, commented: “London Standard was founded with the aim of developing complex and innovative property ventures throughout the capital that require imagination and specialist skills to realise their potential. These projects are not easy and we required a bank with both an ability to understand the scheme and provide a flexible borrowing structure.  Aldermore was an ideal match. The team, headed by Simon Knowles, was excited by our quirky ideas and really understood what we were trying to do with the site.  Aldermore was committed to work proactively with us, especially around all the challenges that come with access and the sort of development we were dealing with.”

Simon Knowles, Head of Property Development at Aldermore, said: “When Anthony, Gareth and Nico first approached us we were impressed by the ambition of their plans. Matching this vision, the London Standard team has excellent experience managing complex projects in unusual locations and we were confident in their ability to see the project through. We are already looking forward to seeing the renovated island now that it is completed.”
