At Aldermore, we are playing our part in helping to make Britain great by supporting the communities where we operate. Just some of the ways that we are able to give something back include:

  • The deposits we look after are only ever loaned in the UK
  • Our people and premises are located in the UK, close to the communities we serve
  • We enthusiastically support UK government schemes, such as Help to Buy
  • Our culture mirrors that of other SMEs, so we understand the needs of our customers’ communities
  • Our partnership with Visionpath Education and their SKILL! programme supports young entrepreneurs in schools to develop core skills for the future

Our charity of the year

We endeavour to actively and positively contribute to and invest in the communities in which we operate; whether that’s our national community, our local community or our community of people at each of our locations.

In 2017 Aldermore has chosen to support SANDS, a UK charity which offers support to anyone affected by a death of a baby due to stillbirth & neonatal death.

Aldermore are aiming to raise as much money as possible in 2017 through fundraising events throughout the year across all our offices. The Bank also offers an excellent benefit of matching an additional £250 per event as part of our employee £4£ scheme.

This charity was a unanimous decision throughout the company based on our employees' experiences with family members and friends and this is very close to our employees' hearts.

We met with Susy Gould-Obiora, Senior Trust and Corporate Fundraiser at Sands, and here is what she had to say:

“We are delighted that Aldermore has chosen Sands as their charity of the year. Without the vital support and incredible generosity of our supporters, fundraisers and volunteers, Sands would not have been able to achieve all we have over recent years. Our corporate partners play an important role in raising funds to enable us to deliver the wide range of services that we offer and we are very much looking forward to partnering with Aldermore over the coming year.  All of your fundraising activities and efforts, however large or small, really do make a huge difference – so thank you.”

Bringing skills to schools through SKILL!

The SKILL! Programme allows local organisations to provide young people with the business skills they might not otherwise learn at school. Over the past few years, our people have attended regular workshops where they act as mentors at local schools to pass on their business skills to the next generation.

Find out more about Aldermore's support for SKILL

In the case study, we visit All Hallows School in Salford for their SKILL! Workshop. Team members from our regional base in Manchester joined the event at All Hallows to help students pitch innovative ideas in a 'Dragons' Den' scenario.

Offering presentation tips and problem-solving suggestions, our people took time out of their day to mentor the students, before sitting on the judging panel when it was time for the teams to pitch.

As one Aldermore team member commented: "The SKILL! Programme made me realise I actually have lots to offer. I enjoyed helping the students develop their ideas and rationalise whether they could be turned into a genuine business."

For Aldermore, this means that we're not just giving something back at a local level by supporting the next generation as they prepare for the world of work, but also contributing to the causes that really matter to young people and boosting the morale of our people through the skill-sharing workshops.
