Simon Healy, Managing Director of Savings at Aldermore, has given a mixed outlook for businesses over 2013, predicting that SMEs will have to face a turbulent economic climate over the next 12 months.

Recording his thoughts for the Inside Aldermore video series (which you can watch below), Simon summarises the mood of the SME industry in 2012, as well as predicting the outlook for companies across the New Year.

"The conditions have been extremely tough," he says. "[Conditions have been] far harder than they should have been.

"SMEs perhaps haven't enjoyed the support that they believed they should have had from financial institutions or stakeholders."

Speaking about the prospects for 2013, Simon highlights the issues being faced by many SME owners.

"The biggest challenge facing businesses in 2013 is the uncertainty surrounding the economy. And it's difficult to know what decisions to make in such an environment."

However, Simon also offers some hope for SMEs in the New Year, highlighting the Funding for Lending Scheme and the rise of challenger banks like Aldermore as reasons for SMEs to be hopeful about the year ahead.
