James Wharton MP, Minister for Local Growth and the Northern Powerhouse, visited Manchester to officially open specialist lender and savings bank, Aldermore’s, new city centre offices. The Northern Powerhouse Minister attended the Bank’s office at 40 Spring Gardens, for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Hosted by Charles Haresnape, Group Managing Director of Mortgages at Aldermore, the Minister was shown around the new offices to meet with senior leaders across the Bank’s Business Finance, Human Resources and Marketing teams.

Established in 2009 Aldermore, which recently celebrated its seventh birthday, has grown from a start-up with lending balances of £50 million, to a FTSE 250 business which now lends over £6.5 billion to SMEs, Landlords and Homeowners. Almost 350 staff, more than one third of Aldermore’s total employees, are based across its three Northern sites in Manchester, Leeds and Wilmslow. Across the Northern region, the Bank has lent in excess of £1.3 billion to businesses and homeowners, and savers have trusted the Bank to look after over £1.2 billion of their hard earned savings.

Charles Haresnape, Group Managing Director for Mortgages said: “It’s great that we are able to welcome the Minister for the Northern Powerhouse to our Manchester offices. Aldermore is proud to have a significant presence in the North and we are committed to helping businesses and individuals, across the region and the UK, to achieve their goals and ambitions.”

James Wharton, Minister for Local Growth and Northern Powerhouse, comments: “We’re determined to rebalance the economy and build a Northern Powerhouse. With over £1.3billion lent to businesses and households by Aldermore in the North it’s clear the financial sector is already playing its part in helping us realise that ambition. It is really encouraging that companies like Aldermore are choosing to locate offices in prime Northern Powerhouse locations like Manchester. I hope to see other key financial institutions looking to do the same.”
