British challenger bank Aldermore has appointed Sean Thorn as its Refinance Business Development Manager with responsibility for the South of England.

Based in Aldermore's Asset Finance Reading Office and reporting to Mark Gilman, Head of Refinance, Sean is responsible for liaising with owners of small and medium sized businesses throughout the region. Refinancing is typically used to support management buyouts, buy-in's, retirement sales and property deposits.

Sean has more than 10 years' experience gained in the financial services market, having previously worked for Barclays Asset Finance, Bank of Scotland and as an Account Manager at Aldermore Asset Finance.

Sean said: "I'm delighted to be joining Mark Gilman, to help raise business owners' awareness and understanding of Aldermore's refinancing capability. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new business initiative within the Bank."

Mark Gilman, Head of Refinance, said: "I'm delighted to welcome Sean to the team and wish him every success for the future. He has considerable experience of working in the business finance sector and I have no doubt he'll be able to make an immediate contribution to our business objectives."

Aldermore has lent more than £2 billion (a combination of commercial mortgages, residential mortgages, asset finance and invoice finance) since first opening its doors for business in the summer of 2009. Aldermore has approximately 12,000 SME customers and has increased its business client base by 52% during the past year, at a time when many other banks have been scaling back their SME lending activities.
